The Great Garage & Antique Sale, brought to you by Audacy and Silverton Casino, is back Saturday May 14th. It’s a chance to shop and explore over 100 garage sales in one convenient place!
The resort is currently undergoing a $45 million renovation. The 300-room hotel is being remodeled in a Western-style “rustic-luxe” design, according to a Silverton news release.
The Great Garage & Antique Sale
The Great Garage & Antique Sale is a must see for anyone with a penchant for second hand items and a love of a bargain. Presented by Entercom and held in the parking area of the Silverton Casino, this two day event features hundreds of booths of all shapes and sizes spanning multiple indoor and outdoor areas.
The most interesting part of this show is actually the people that make up the crowd! This event is a community effort and you might be surprised by the amount of people that attend. Some of the more unique vendors have their own websites while others offer a mobile app to make it easier than ever to shop your way around town! You’ll also find many of the vendors in the parking lot offering up free samples of their wares or a nice cold beer. The best part is you get to do all this while supporting your local economy and the Silverton Casino at the same time.
The Shelby Heritage Center
If you’re a car fan, then you’ll enjoy visiting the Shelby Heritage Center. This museum has plenty of classic cars on display, including a Shelby Cobra and a Ford GT.
The Shelby Heritage Center is located at 6405 Ensworth Street, across from Town Square. It offers free tours, and you can also buy tickets if you want to take one of the guided tours.
Racing legend Carroll Shelby built a number of vehicles, including the Ford GT40 and the Cobra. He won two national championships, and his designs are still popular today.
CSX2002: This Shelby Factory Team Cobra 289 Comp Roadster is one of the most prominent displays in the room. It’s a race car that was driven by Ken Miles from 1962 through 1963.
Shelby American, founded by Carroll Shelby, manufactures and markets performance vehicles. It builds authentic continuation Cobras and Mustang Shelby upgrades, as well as trucks like the Shelby Raptor and Shelby F-150 Super Snake.
The Silverton Aquarium
The Silverton Aquarium at Silverton Casino Hotel features an 117,000-gallon tank filled with thousands of tropical fish, stingrays and sharks in a reef environment. The aquarium also hosts mermaid shows Thursday through Sunday, during which trained water dancers and swimmers perform in the tank and pose for photos with guests.
Besides mermaid shows, the aquarium is also home to a lounge where you can relax and watch the animals swim around. You can also participate in interactive stingray feedings with marine biologists on a daily basis at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
The stingrays are fed by divers in a suit with built-in speakers, which allows them to answer questions about the marine life and explain more about the aquarium. Mermaids also swim around the tank multiple times on Thursday through Sunday, blowing kisses and posing for photos with kids.
The Silverton Hotel & Pool
There’s a lot to do in Las Vegas, but the Silverton Hotel & Pool is one of those places that feels more like a mountain lodge than a casino. The building is framed by huge timbers and exposed-stone pylons, with rough-hewn stone walls and large leather couches lining the lobby.
Aside from the casino and a variety of restaurants, Silverton also houses an 117,000-gallon aquarium and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. It’s a popular destination for tourists, particularly families.
The resort’s 300-room hotel is closed this summer for a $45 million remodeling, but the casino, restaurant and aquarium attractions will remain open. The hotel and pool are expected to reopen early next year.
The pool is a semi-enclosed courtyard with hot tubs, loungers and private cabanas for a fee. There’s also a stage with color-changing LED lighting for live entertainment.
